The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is an organisation operating within the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health’s administrative branch. It is formed by the Divisions for Occupational Safety and Health of the Regional State Administrative Agencies together with the Department for Work and Gender Equality of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, which guides the OSH Divisions.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is tasked with enforcing compliance with working life legislation and ensuring that work is carried out in as safe and healthy a manner as possible in Finland. In addition to carrying out enforcement, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration also offers advice and instructions on issues related to working life.
Haallas and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have a long-standing partnership in the development of online services. This partnership began in 2015 with the redesign of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s online service Tyosuojelu.fi as part of the redesign of the online services of the organisations within the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health’s administrative branch.
The aim was to utilise the joint user interface and functions of the administrative branch’s online services while redesigning the unique visual look and structure and adding new features and functions.
The online service is used by employees, employers, students and working life experts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this popular service has reached a record number of users. For example, the number of visitors to the page on lay-offs has increased almost threefold due to the pandemic.
The online service is continuously being developed. In 2021, a user survey was conducted regarding the online service, and the service will be redesigned further based on the results. Based on the feedback, the website will be developed with regard to its visual look, user interface and content, among other things.
In the redesign of the online service, particular attention will be paid to responsiveness and accessibility. The Act on the Provision of Digital Services requires compliance with the criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
“The user survey provided us with a comprehensive picture of the current state of Tyosuojelu.fi and strengthened our understanding of the focus areas in the online service’s development. The Haallas team have taken a solution-oriented approach to the questions raised during the development work.”
– Katariina Oranen, Web Service Specialist, Regional State Administrative Agency for Northern Finland
UX designers and software developers from Haallas have participated in the online service’s development.
“The cooperation with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has always been very smooth. The customer has the courage, vision and will to develop the website actively. I think that it’s great that the target group has been taken into account in the content from the start."
– Kata Tolvanen, Lead UX Designer, Haallas
